Sabbatical Week 40 – Buyu Goes Places

Sabbatical Week 40

Happy 2024!

Day 1

Went to the market again to get a well needed brunch

before heading up the mirador next to the hostel

There’s a cultural center up at the mirador, it seems rather empty however
A proper Quito sign

Got some information regarding Amazon and just waited for the evening to strike

NYE dinner – Cuy is an obligation
Streets were quite festival
And it’s 2024!
Obviously everywhere there’s Germans. He actually drove a campervan and in the hostel just for the NYE PARTY

Day 2

Breakfast with a Dutch colombian

My sickness had really started to affect me

Me and the girls who I met at the hostel decided to take a slow day and got lunch at a fancy restaurant near the hostel

The girl next to me is a Chinese student studying in America

At night, I went out with a Dutch guy to get a quick dinner

Day 3

Went to see the city again.

The church allows us to climb up.

Later went to more churches

Finally the gold church

That’s enough churches for a day, then it’s food!

I did a food tour in the evening, was able to see lots of food I wouldn’t normally find out myself

Day 4

Sickness worsened, so didn’t do much other than find a Dutch guy

at 11pm, it’s boarding time for the night bus to the Amazonas!

Day 5

River cruise starts here

On the way to the lodge (2:30hrs from the bridge) we saw many monkeys.

After lunch and a short break, we went out for another river cruise

Can’t never get old of such view. Later we saw some Caimen!

We did some star gazing, without light pollution the milky way and various star constellations were visible. I slept very well that night.

Day 6

Jungle tour!

I was still trying to make sure my shorts stay dry. soon, we were just swimming

We came back rest a bit and followed by roasting our own cacao and coffee

Day 7

Last day was to go visit an Amazon village

Playing with a pet animal

First was to meet with a Sherman

We sampled their local spirit as well as let the Sherman perform on our bodies.

Next was local lunch followed by making our own Yuca bread from scatch

After lunch, we took the boat back

At night we celebrated our completion of the tour

It was touristy, but yet lovely. Life is good.
