Sabbatical 49 – Buyu Goes Places

Sabbatical 49

Almost near the end of journey. Bittersweet, but the last one and half weeks were nevertheless the most memorable. Perhaps, I was with people again. Perhaps, I knew it would be a very long time before I can continue.

Day 1

Waking up early to do a city walking tour in San Salvador

The flowers were amazing
Typical LaTam statue. Almost every city square has one
Interesting church style
A mix of colonial time and modern buildings

There is this new museum that’s donated by the Chinese where my local guide was very eager to show us.

Interesting the only “Chinese’ elements in the library was the Chinese symbols indicating where the fire hydrates are (I didn’t take any pictures).

It was election day, so no alcohol was allowed. My guide managed to sneak us into his studio to give us some craft beers. I thought that was pretty nice.

We were then taken to lunch. I’d say out of all central American food I’ve had so far. I quite like this one. For one thing is it’s more soupy.

After getting back our hotel, we decided to shop for a bit. I had nothing at that point due to delay in my baggage arrival.

Sunset was amazing

At night, we celebrated me and Dutch friend’s reunion and had a nice dinner at an Irish restaurant.

Day 2

Lazy day to just check out and go to the beach. We hung out around the mall near our hotel for a bit and ate breakfast.

Booked a Uber directly to the beach after we found this amazing deal for around $65US a night and meals included.

Sunset time

Day 3

Woke up to go to another next town next to ours. A delivery driver saw us and let us hitch a ride.

Beach time

Chicken bus back to our accommodation
Salvadorian Ceviche
Pretty good for “free” food

Day 4

Lazy morning followed by another Uber ride to Santa Ana

Lunch at a nearby farmer’s market
Last meal before we headed out

Ride to Santa Ana

The Uber driver got us some local spirit from a road side shop

Did a quick evening walking tour and went to get ingredients for dinner

We made soup for dinner

Day 5

Believe it or not, with $25 we got our rental car!

First thing we got visit the Tazumal which is an ingenious ruin

It’s not just waterfalls. They are hot springs!
Dinner time

Day 6

Road trip!

To hike the volcano

It had a crater with a jaded lake

We got down the lake

my favorite food
Crab soup! at the hotel we were staying

Day 7

Sunrise by the lake

Road trip continuing! (Ruta de Flores)

Lunch!

Found this this amazing campground

The box in front of the fireplace was ours.

We chatted with an El Salvadorian couple, knew their stories how they grew up in fears and now their country is finally back in peace.
