Sabbatical Week 50 – Buyu Goes Places

Sabbatical Week 50

It’s been almost 6 months since I last updated my blog. Partially I have been busy, mentally, but also just didn’t want to sign off that chapter.

I just came back from Europe to meet up with a fellow traveller from week 49. It’s time for me to keep going.

Day 1

Said goodbye to our beloved campground and continued our journey back to Santa Ana

We were been looking forward to the food festival for a while.

Food’s a bit overrated. That’s just a central america thing – the Spaniards forget to teach them about their love for food

After that we arrived to the “7 waterfalls”, really one of the two things were famous in the country.

I slipped actually and injured my right wrist again. It’s a recurring pattern that I tend to land on my right hand

After the hike we found a hotel just short on the outskirt of the city. (we wanted to stay near the waterfalls, but everywhere was fully booked due to the food festival.)

Sunset.

There’s actually a wedding shooting at the hotel city (it has a beautiful garden) where a heart shaped candle circle was lit after dark. Pretty cute.

Dinner was near our hotel. It has a fancy fireplace in which we took advantage of. It was actually surprisingly cold at night

It was a great day.

Day 2

Breakfast was included and was served in the hotel garden

Last road trip photo

We returned our car and headed towards Guatemala city.

Bye, El Salvador

After arriving in Guatemala, we called an In-Drive. The driver was very nice but unfortunate we got into a minor car accident where a chicken bus side ended our driver’s new vehicle. He’s pissed. We had to take another Uber instead. By the time, we got to our accommodation in Antigua it was past 9pm and almost all restaurants were closed. (Another thing that Spaniards didn’t teach the about late dinner time)

We found a restaurant that was open but we were the last guests.

It was alright, half western.

Day 3

Walking around town

Found a local breakfast place

I wish they serve chicken for breakfast.. I really don’t like heavy carb based breakfast

Walking tour!

This food looks way more interesting
A fancy hotel with an old tree where you can get wedding in

I have been to Antigua before, so this is really just me wanting to spend last hours with a dear friend.

Cooking for our last meals

Day 4

I was really planning on departing today so that I could start my job before April to qualify this year’s cost of living adjustment and bonus. I mean, sometimes, you just have to make trade offs between things. It’s poppy’s birthday the day after. I chose to stay and fly out on Friday instead. It was costly but time spend with a good friend isn’t something money can buy over.

Poppy didn’t feel well, so I ended up just eating by myself.

Day 5

took poppy out for her birthday.

Don’t know why my glass was empty

Day 6

The end

Hello LA

Just like this. It’s over:

The centurion lounge in LAX is surprisingly nice with free Massage and decent food

Day 7

Special thanks for my friends who welcomed me with the special hot pot and allowed me to stay with them while I sorted out my house. The intruder actually came back 3 separate times but eventually was arrested with the help of my neighbor.
