Canada Week 2

Again at Postdoc near the end of a summer day. Looking at the old photos, wondering when I can get out of this corp 9-5.

Day 1

Got up and packed my camping gears relatively early enough to prepare a big day on Lake Louise

They weather looked the great, but as soon as I hit the lake it took a 360 turn

I didn’t have wet weather or cold weather gears. It happened to be both wet and cold!

This is where the down pour began. The following 2 hours was just misery. Really unfortunate. I also had to cut my bike short because of that given that I was completely soaked in a single digit (Celsius) weather

One more top photo

I probably will have to go back to redo some of the sections

The rest of the day was just me trying to recover from the cold with the SPA in the hostel and ate and drunk to the evening.

Day 2

Waited out a big until the rain storm subsided and went to a sports store (only one) to get an expensive rain coat.

Still pretty terrible at the beginning, the sun at least came out a bit around midday

I think this was one of the highlights of my entire trip

Finally the glaciers became visible

Weather started to shift again

Again

Last stop before arriving at a mountain hostel

Our hostel host started the fire for us, it was just plain amazing

We had Starlink as well, but I fell asleep rather quickly

Day 3

Another day another trail!

The beauty of those glaciers just don’t do justice in only photos

Look at this Mr. handsome

Approaching Jasper. The fire devastation became rather apparent

I have to talk about his hostel experience. It’s on one hand it’s the only hostel in town survived the fire ban last year. The other is also being an Indian ran hostel. Unlike other hostels which most workers are volunteers from Europe (in exchange for free accommodations), you just know people didn’t want to be there.

Further, two Indian guests showed up and none stop talking way past midnight as if it’s their private room. I guess if the Brits were bad, their colonizees probably learned well from their former masters.

Day 4

Biking day

Though a good start, I quickly realized I’ve left my bike lock key somewhere. It was tragic that I only realized that after I locked my bike. Fortunately, I hadn’t biked too far and after running up and down though the hostel I was able to locate my key in my swimming trunk. I definitely had the thought of either losing my bike or having to explain to Canadian police the bike belongs me.

I ended up biking to town for a happy hour!

Earls, my favorite Canadian restaurant, doesn’t actually have the exact same of my favorite menu. No complains for the price I paid for the food I got!

Day 5

Early hike day!

It was freezing! single digital in Celcius!

Canadian parks do a good job warns us about bears!

Looking at the pictures now, it’s definitely interesting to see the pics look great probably than how I felt in person!

The only thing I didn’t like this trail was the amount of mosquitos. They penetrated through my long sleeve!

After the hike, now it’s time to check in to the campground and then hot spring

My $20 campsite!

Day 6

Leaving Alberta and heading back towards British Columbia!

Went to a view point in Jasper town called Patricia Lake and Pyramid Lake

Before reaching to Mt. Robson Provincial Park in BC

Driving on BC-5 was lot of work, many constructions and road blocks.

Took a while to get to Kamloops and settled in for the day.

Day 7

Left the Rockies, and welcomed the deserts again

Stopped by a town called Lillooet

Random road side stops

Stopped by an outwest town Pemberton

Before arriving at Whistler

A quick bike ride

Cooked myself a meal and had a good night sleep on a HI hostel in town

Day 8 (Bonus Day)

The only thing I did was to do Garibaldi LakeĀ  before heading back home – horrendous traffic during Canadian long weekend

I wrote this blog while I am in Argentina. Canada is really a bargain comparing to how much I am spending.

  1. What an incredible and occasionally miserable journey! The photos of all scenery and the glaciers finally becoming visible were majestic.

I’ve also learned from your post that Earls in the Seattle area is Canada-founded.

I look forward to the Argentina post and stories.
